Hello curiousmoth! I’m sorry I completely forgot to answer this when you first asked. I just saw it again now and figure - better really really late than never?

Staedtler ball 432 M are my favourite ballpoints at the moment. They are not 100% blot-proof, but they are fairly well behaved and come in pretty colours (including brown).

Blotting happens when the ink collects on the exposed part of the ball that is not touching the paper. I keep a separate piece of paper/item of clothing/section of skin nearby to wipe the tip on every now and then and that seems to keep everyone happy.

For the monster girl challenge I have been using the Procreate app on iPad, which has a lovely grainy brush called “bonobo chalk”.

Step 1: Create a blank transparent layer
Step 2: Using bonobo chalk + eraser, draw the rounded rectangle in a single colour
Step 3: Lock layer transparency (the most important bit)
Step 4: Scribble all over your layer like a hyperactive child - your grainy edges are preserved by the transparency lock

I’m sure you could use a similar technique in any graphics software that have layers and transparency (aka. alpha channels, masking, etc) + a grainy brush.
